LLM

An AI model trained on huge amounts of text so it can understand and generate language.

LLM stands for Large Language Model. It's a type of AI system trained on massive amounts of text so it can predict, understand, and generate language. Tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are all built on top of LLMs. Rather than following fixed, hand-written rules, an LLM has learned statistical patterns in language well enough to hold a conversation, summarize a document, or write working code.

What LLMs are good for

  • Customer-facing chatbots and internal AI-assistants

  • Summarizing or extracting information from unstructured text (contracts, emails, support tickets)

  • Drafting content, generating first-pass copy, or classifying incoming data

  • Search that understands meaning rather than matching exact keywords

Where LLMs need guardrails

An LLM predicts likely text, it doesn't "know" facts the way a database does. Left unchecked, that means it can produce a confident-sounding answer that's wrong (commonly called a hallucination). For anything where correctness matters, an LLM should be paired with real data sources, validation steps, or a human check, not trusted blindly.
